***New updates at the bottom***
Gothenburg
2nd March
Hi Guys,
Just a quick update, we have gotten to Gothenburg safely and are now
in good company at Escape Kayak Center, Johan and Sara's hospitality
is exceptional, in fact we are putting on pounds by the minute, just
finished waffles and ice cream as I type..... Today we set about
fitting our kayaks out for the trip ahead and started sorting out
our equipment, as always we are finding that we've bought too much
of what we don't need and forgotten a few items of what we do
need!!!! This evening we helped out at a pool rolling session, it
was meant to be a beginners rolling class so I was surprised at how
good they were, more than fifty per cent of the class were rolling,
some both sides, this was after only two or three sessions in some
cases, a testament to the skill of the instructors here. Tomorrow we
are doing a bit of a talk for the local paddlers and then hopefully
setting out the next day to start our journey Northwards.
Cheers for now
Jeff

Gothenburg 3rd March
'Last night met with
about 30 local sea kayakers, did a slide show for them and then Mark
and I answered any questions they had, we have managed to pack
everything in or onto our boats and hope to be off today and heading
North, the coming section of coastline is pretty remote and we can
expect a lack of human contact for several days, the guys at the
slide show told us the coming coastline is a 'must see' part of
Sweden and we shouldn't rush it, so we are looking forward to it, a
big thank you to Karel for the forecasts,
cheers Jeff

Only 21/2 hours of paddling today now camped at57 degrees 41.557'
N 011 degrees 44.777'E temperature is below Zero as all the puddles
have ice on. Saw lots of Eider ducks. For this evenings meal we had
a bowl of pasta and herrings in tomato sauce. Heart rate on coming
off the water was 68 BPM , resting heart rate before was 50 BPM
weather was force 3-4 occ 5 Nor-westerly. Both of us are happy to be
on the water, spirits high, looking at f6-7 winds tomorrow so may
not be quite so happy in 12 hours time!
