Mark Schoon
in Maine, U.S.A.
Mark is a BCU level 4 coach (Sea) as
well as a registered Maine Sea Kayak Guide, along with his partner
Mel Rice he runs Carpe Diem Kayak School, primarily teaching in the
Mount Desert area of North Eastern Maine.
Both Mark and Mel have been guest instructors at
many Sea Kayak Symposium along the East coast of the United States,
in 2007 Mark and Mel were guest speakers at the Canoecopia show in
Wisconsin, presenting on their extensive journeys along Maine's
beautiful coastline, which Mark has paddled in its entirety.
Besides teaching modern sea kayaking
technique Mark also has an interest in the traditional kayaking
methods of the Inuit peoples of the far north and likes to introduce
paddlers to the beginnings of traditional Greenland Qajak skills.
