Environment (Ideal conditions)

Calm waters, light wind, small chop/surf

You should have done a capsize drill or be comfortable with a capsize. Ideally you will have done an introduction course. You will know how to move forward and backwards and turn. You don`t need to know how to roll or handle conditions. You should be ready to learn support strokes and to perform different rescues.

Environment (Ideal conditions)

Force 3, tidal stream 1knt, surf up to 1m

You don`t need to know how to roll but should be either learning or ready to learn. You should have support strokes to keep you stable in moderate conditions. You should be able to perform a deep water rescue effectively and ready to learn a variety of towing and rescue techniques. You should be able to paddle for 25km if booking into an expedition with us.

Level: Advanced I

Leadership in intermediate conditions. Skills in advanced conditions

Coastal Sea Kayak Award

Rolling:

Yes, in calm waters

Environment (Ideal conditions)

Force 4, tidal stream 2+knts, surf up to 1.5m, coastal conditions

You should be happy with your roll in calm waters. You should have a variety of rescues and be comfortable and familiar with the use of a towline.

You should be able to lead in intermediate conditions. You should have a confident roll in intermediate conditions. You should be happy landing through surf of up to 1.5m and ready to learn leadership in advanced conditions.
